Hi, I'm Zara, Your Sustainability Bestie
Zara is here, and she's got things to say. From the pressure of "doing sustainability right" to why Earth Day is more than a moment, this is the start of an honest conversation about the planet and our place in it.
Hello there,
I've been wanting to write this for a while now, so I'm glad you're here for it.
My name is Zara, and from now on, I'll be the one writing to you here, sharing stories, reflections, and honestly, just real talk about climate, sustainability, and everything in between. Think of me as your sustainability bestie. The friend who keeps you in the loop, breaks things down when they feel too complicated, and reminds you that caring about the planet doesn't have to feel heavy all the time.
I work alongside the TranxCarbon team, and if there's one thing I've learned being in this space, it's that sustainability isn't just about big policies or corporate net-zero pledges. It's personal. It's emotional. It's about the choices we make, the conversations we have, and the small shifts that, over time, add up to something bigger.
I've been thinking about the right moment to start writing, and honestly? There's never a perfect one. So here we are. 💚
The Earth Doesn't Ask For Perfection
If you've been around the sustainability space for even a little while, you've probably felt it too that quiet pressure to "do it all right." Zero waste. Fully plant-based. No flights. No plastic. And if you slip up, the guilt creeps in.
But here's something I've come to believe deeply: the Earth isn't asking us to be perfect. It's asking us to pay attention.
Earlier this year, World Earth Day came and went. And while the posts, the hashtags and the green graphics have faded from our timelines, I find myself thinking the conversation shouldn't have ended there. Earth Day was never meant to be a one-day event. It was meant to be a reminder. A pause button. A moment to look at the planet that holds us, the air we breathe without thinking, the soil that grows our food, the oceans we rarely see but constantly depend on and say, thank you. I see you. I'm trying.
The thing is, that feeling doesn't expire on April 23rd. It shouldn't, anyway.
Why I'm Still Thinking About It
I think about how much the world has changed even in the last few years. The conversations around climate are louder now. More people are asking questions. More businesses are being held accountable. More young people, especially across Africa, are stepping into this space as founders, advocates, researchers, and yes, even carbon market enthusiasts (hi, that might be you).
And yet, the work is far from done.
What Earth Day reminded me and what I want to carry into every post I write here is that this isn't a one-day conversation. It's not a hashtag we post and forget. It's the foundation of everything we do here at TranxCarbon every webinar, every carousel, every community conversation in Sustainability Frontiers. It all traces back to this one simple truth: the Earth is in our hands, and what we do with that matters. Every single day. Not just in April.
A Small Thing You Can Do Today
I won't give you a long checklist—just one thing.
Today, take a moment to notice something in nature: a tree outside your window, the sky, even a single plant on your desk. Just notice it. Let that be your Earth Day action. Sometimes awareness is the first and most honest form of care.
This is just the beginning of our conversations here. I'll be back soon with more reflections, more breakdowns of things happening in the climate and carbon space, and more honest moments like this one.
Until then, take care of yourself, and take care of where you stand.
With love, Zara 🌿 Your Sustainability Bestie
